Part that connects to the valve cover breather hose...

What is the hose that wedges into the valve cover breather hose and continues to the air filter housing called??? I snapped mine like a brittle twig after trying to reattach it. Let me back up:

After a LONG day of driving, I turned the key off and pulled it out, and the car kept running. No sweat, I figured the vac line just came undone. Popped the hood, the car shut off (by itself), and noticed that the hose in question and the valve cover breather hose had flown off and were over by the inline fuel filter!!! WTF??? Also, the nut that holds the air filter cover was nowhere to be found.

So I reattached the valve cover breather hose (with its continuing hose) back to the valve cover and air filter housing but when I went to put on a new nut, and sort of pushed the hose out of the way, it snapped like a twig. I duck taped it for now.

But upon looking for a replacement part, all I could find was the valve cover breather hose. So what's the other part called? It's also a hose but more hard plastic, and attaches to the air filter housing.

Thanks!

I have heard that the flat hose will cut down on oil consumption. I may give it a try thanks for the link.

Thanks for the links, I ordered one here at mercedesshop.com!

Is it safe to drive the car with a patchy duck tape fix on this part until the new one arrives? I did my best with the taping but it was 11 PM and I'd been on the road for a while....

Thanks again hombres.

I drove mine for a week or so with a decent sized tear in the hose, I don't think it will hurt anything for a short time.

which side goes where?

Tangofox, I ordered that part after following your link, got it today. Quick question: does it matter which end goes on the valve cover? The shallower end fits ok but the deeper end allows the hose more clearance above the air filter housing. Should I clamp the deeper end on the valve cover and just wedge the shallow end over the nozzle on the air filter housing?

the end on the longer side goes on the valve cover. can't remember if its the shallow or deep end, but i would guess the deep end. but i haven't had the stock intake for 3 years now!! but i had the exact same problem before i started to mess with the car.

SirNik84, it looks like that way makes the most sense--thanks for the confirmation.

Yes. And a hose clamp on the valve cover end is not a bad idea.
