W107 Diesel

Has a diesel mercedes in a W107 chassis ever been made? Its my favorite MB body style, and it would have been great if mercedes made them in diesel.

Since the SLs were marketed as the sporty option in the MB lineup, the diesel wouldn't have made sense. So no... i'm sure there are some custom ones running around though.

Here is an older model 220SLD, custom job. Mercedes never made a Diesel SL.

I believe there is a R107 380SL running around somewhere with a OM617 placed in it (I guess that makes it a 300SLD), running biodiesel and attending various meets.

one of my someday projects is to turn a slc into a short bed pickup truck, preferably with a removable hard top.

of course with trucky pretensions a diesel with a five speed would be the natural power plant.

That is just soooo wrong!
That's a terrible thing to do to a classic MB.
I wonder what the SL forum section would think of this or the entire R107 diesel idea.

It's probably faster than the 3.8 M116.

Doubt it, since the 3.8 has an extra what, 30 hp.

Now that I would call ambitious. I like the idea of a V12 in an SL.
