AC system troubles...

Well to begin with, it's been some time since I've posted at the ole shop forum. Its good to know there are some of the names I remember still posting!
Well, it seems I am going to need some air conditioning with these record high temperatures around here and mine is being quite temperamental. A long while back I had the AC compressor changed, I think it was used once and seized. Obviously the mechanic did not flush the system. So at this point I know I need at least a compressor, evaporator, and expansion valve. Now to the larger of the two problems. I have no power at the compressor plug. A trusted mechanic told me he tried jumpering the switch on the evaporator to no avail. What else is there on this system? Does anyone out there have a schematic? In the archives I noted one fellow had knocked a wire loose under the glove box which gave him similar symptoms but he did not elaborate as to what exactly he was talking about. I have not had the time to dig into the old girl yet, but any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks - William
Oh yes the car is a '83 W126 With 617.953

What about the pressure switch on the drier? Did you check the fuses? Also, did he test for voltage, or just try to jumper to make the compressor's clutch activate?

Yes, you do need to replace the compressor, drier, and expansion valve. Also flush the system. If you are going 134a, get a high/low pressure switch to keep the compressor from running if the pressure gets too high or too low.

You need to jumper the pressure switch on the drier to see if the compressor switch will work. It's the two wires on the lower part of the drier, not the ones on top. The ones on top are the aux. fan.

Isn't that what the pressure switch on the drier is for?

Yes, but the typical set up on these cars for R12 was for low pressure only.

If your car's ac is like my 87, 260E, then check this post:

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=158591&page=5

I have put an extensive step by step method to test the a/c from compressor relay socket.

I believe that my car is not equipped with the CCU (KLIMA as it's referred to in some places). That came around 85 or so.

The mechanic told me he bypassed the dryer switch only (my mistake, not the evaporator!) but did not tell me if the voltage was there.

Thanks for the quick reply folks!

The SD should have the push button climate selector. That push button contraption is the CCU. Klima relay was intorduced in the 1985 IIRC.
