transmission compatibility? 1979 300sd to 1980 300d
hi--
i'm looking to swap automatic transmissions from a 1979 300sd parts car into a 1980 300d. any known issues or problems? current status: parts car, 1979 300sd: transmission out of car, torque converter still in car (seized engine due to broken timing chain, ouch) destination car, 1980 300d: transmission is slipping any help greatly appreciated! thank you all! -noah

Same basic tranny, I think, 4 bolt oil pan, 722.1xx. As long as the inputs are similar, they should work OK. Maybe not optimal as it is going from turbo to not turbo. The donor transmission will start in second unless you migrate all the wiring from the 300SD to the recipient

too bad you are so far away! I have a 78 trans from a 300D non turbo and both of my drivers are turbo. I would gladly trade.
