0-60 time is one way. I think your car should take about 12 seconds.

Another way would be to install (permanently or temporarily) a pressure gauge, see if there's any boost.

Turbo

So you cant hear it at all, I have a 2004 Dodge CTD and you can hear that one. If I take the hose off while it is running will that hurt anything?

Crap man, in a Dodge, noise is considered a feature, in a Mercedes, an annoyance. To own an American diesel is to turn off the engine to order in a drive-through.

It won't hurt to take off the intake hose, but that won't tell you if you're getting boost pressure. Gauges are cheap, you can even use a mityvac to get a general reading whether there is boost.

The '92 300D is a sweet car. If there is no boost at all though, it'll be about a 20sec+ run to 60mph. With boost, should be closer to 11. You should be decent off-the-line, then feel the boost start to kick around 2300rpm and pull hard up to the shift point. If not, there are (unfortunately) several sensors that can cause the wastegate to stay open, the simplest being lack of vacuum to the wastegate. If you pull the vacuum line off of the wastegate and it doesn't make any difference in acceleration (in the '90s 300D 2.5) that would indicate that the wastegate is hanging open and you had no boost.

I do miss the soft turbine whistle of my big Cat though, suppose that an ATAAC would help the sound and power output from the M-B diesel.
