82 300d lacks power and has loud clicking
 

I have an 82 300d turbo. I haven't been able to drive it for over a year. It lacks power and has a loud click or knock that sounds like its coming from the valves. The click is consistent in rythmn. It does start after cranking it for a while.

I talked to a diesel mechanic. He works on big trucks not mercedes. I described the problem to him. He sounded sure that it was a problem with the fuel injection. He said start the ngine and pull of each injector line and the one that you take off and the car's engine doesn't change. Then that is the bad one.

I have a phone video I want to try and figure out how to put on here so you guys can hear it.

Can anyone confirm this solution that the mechanic gave me. Would the fuel injection cause that loud clicking? Anyone have this problem?
