A/C fan quit

ok so on one of the hotest days yet this summer my blower motor just stopped! didn't make any noises or anything just quit blowing, but the rest of the A/C works (if I vent the sunroof and go about 85-90 the air out of the vents comes out ice cold) even the thing that changes the air coming out the center vents is working, well it will blow out the center vent for like 2 min then spend 2 hours coming out the defrost vents then come out the center vents for 2 more mins, of course if has always done that and is very annoying, but I digress. does anyone know where to start? Is there a seperate fues for the blower fan? this is an 87 300D.

Thanks
Jeff

Check the fuse box and make sure the fuse holder for the heater/A/C fan hasn't melted and dropped down into the fuse box. It is and issue with your car. It happened to mine. There is a bypass to fix the problem if that is what it is. If you use the search feature or better yet a google search of this site, you will find it.

I had the same issue with my 92 300D 2.5 Turbo. I pulled the fan out and cleaned out the motor brushes, they were worn down to almost nothing but I figured I could make it through the summer. A new blower fan is very expensive, my mechanic quoted me $400 to fix. You can make your own brushes by opening up two AA batteries if you are handy. Another option is to take the blower motor to a motor/alternator repair shop, they should be able to fix for a lot less than buying a new motor. Good luck.

If it is your blower motor, don't be cheap, but a new Bosch motor for $60+/- (motor only) (wwww.***************)and press on/off the two blower wheels.

This way you will be done with it and not have to r/r all that below windshield stuff again. Clean/vacuum evaporator while you are there.

It's an old trick my father taught me years ago (He's an electrician used to rebuilt motors in our old basement) remove the core from a battery, I opened a dead D size battery and there is a good size "brush inside them. File or shave until it's the shape of the brush you need. Not sure about longevity but it does not cost anything either. I can send pictures if you like.

It's a pretty safe bet that it hasn't changed since post #1.

300D 2.5 turbos (at least for 92) have two fuses for the fan blower motor. One inside the fuse box (driver side) and a second larger fuse outside the fuse box by the strut tower. Fan blower motor has 3 leads, one ground one 12V and one that receives the variable voltage to control speed. Hope this helps.

after finally figuring out that that big box next to the strut tower is the blower fuse, I popped it open and there was the culprit, it was burned in two. does anyone know about what the retail price is for that fuse, can it be had a a regular autoparts store or do i have to go to a dealer?

Thanks in advance
