sway bar (stabilizer bar) broke needs replaced

1986 SDL 126 chasis.
Broke the end off the sway bar, lost the bushing and related material. Just read the http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=138289
sway bar replacement. Looks do able but time??? do I have the experience?????
I have about 1/3 to maybe 1/2 the threaded end left on the sway bar. Can I reattach with a longer bolt????? Should I replace the whole thing????
Is there any more information that I have missed in my searches???
