I suddenly have a water leak in the floor of my 1985 300d. It has a sun roof but I can't find any water stains or signs of water in the roof of the car. It also has no rust or holes in the floor.
The water only appears in the foot well of the drivers side passenger seat. It is enough water to completely soak the carpet. Help! I can't find where it is coming from. |

My previous 1981 (S123) 300TD Wagon had the exact same problem, twice!
The first time the windshield glass rubber seal was the culprit. Water will filtrate (by the gallons) through the seal and directly behind the dashboard, leaving no water spots on top of the dash. Water will then flow behind the combined instrument cluster and along the pedals' firewall until it rested on the drivers side footrest area. The dealer changed the windshield seal and the problem was solved. The second time, and I'll tell you this just as a reference, water filtrated from the engine compartment by a cable that I had installed through the firewall to power a hi-wattage amplifier I had installed at the side of the center console (passenger side). The cable opening was watersealed and problem was solved. If this does not resolve your problem, try opening the under-dash panel cover on the driver's side and possibly the side panel just beside the emergency brake pedal. Park the car and hose the car with water at different places for a while. Then check from where the water might be filtrating from. A. Rosich E320T, 1995 S320, 1998 |

I have experienced water in the rear footwells on several 123 cars. It took years before I found the solution, and I found it here at mercedesshop. You may question the solution, and say there's no way this could be the problem, but believe me, it is extremely likely that the fix is under the hood.
Raise the hood and look at the rear, outside underhood area. You are looking for the pockets into which the hood hinges fold. You will find some areas where the sheetmetal comes together and there is a dimple. This "notch" is a drain. Additionally these pockets drain inboard toward areas below the master cylinder on one side and below the battery on the other. Using a very sophisticated, high tech tool called baling wire(coat hanger will make a satisfactory substitute for city people) find and clean out all four of these drain holes. I will give this solution a 98% chance of curing your problem. Good luck, |

also remove the battery and look for rust and decay. inspect all rubber boots that cover ac hoses into the car, there are some under the battery. That was my problem. There has been some recent links about this subject. just do a search for "water leak floorboard" and you will be on your way.
good luck bob |

still can't find it
Could i get some extra help on this?
I cleaned the drain wholes and removed, cleaned and put silicone on the plastic panel in the wheel well. Though the side with the rubber looked a little weathered. I also took the battery off and didn't see anything leaking there. I can't seem to find the hose from the sunroof. Anyone happen to have any pictures? The sunroof drains through the C-pillar (between the rear end of the rear door and the front of the side cargo window).

2nd the window seal
I have chased mine for a year, and have discovered that it is the windshield seal. Look at the point of where the top and side edge of the windshield is formed and meet. look there for gaps between the rubber and the glass. Also follow the roof rain gutter until you get in the area even with the top of the windshield. Both places on my car were gapped, and as soon as I sealed them the water on the floor board stopped. But now my fix is wearing away and I have to reapply some non-silicone
caulk. IMO with that much water it has to be coming in from the roof rain gutters, and since it is only on the drivers side, it is not the battery, and not likely the speedo cable hole in the firewall (although I am probably going to seal mine up better after seeing it this past weekend) let us know....
