how much oil?

for my transmission, im doing a service and i cant find my book

The owners manual for my '80 300 TD (non-turbo) specifies 6.1 liters (6.4 U.S. Qt.) for "Initial fill" and 4.8 liters (5 U.S. Qt.) for "Fluid change). Automatic transmission fluid. Steve

If you didn't drain the torque converter, the fluid needed will be much less.

It should be drained on every service. I'm saying that if it wasn't drained 5 qts will be way overfull.
