Shakes after valve adjustment

I really hate valve adjustments. I always break something and I'm soooo sloooow. Of course the air cleaner bracket broke taking it off (I learned from before to always have a spare - so that is fixed!), and I cracked the little black plastic box that sits on top of the valve cover over the little vacuumn flipper thingy - $10 part).

Anyway, here is the issue:

After the valve adjustment I noticed the top end of the engine is shaking a lot more than it did before. My motor mounts are not that old (20-25K?), so I ordered engine shocks (in the 50K I've had the car I've never replaced them).

Anything else I should check?

I just did a valve adjustment yesterday.... hoping to clear up my shake. It didnt, but here is something that did..... Rack Dampner. I barely touched mine and it made a HUGE difference!!

Take a look here. http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=174284&highlight=rack+dampner+location

BTW had no need to remove the air cleaner, just the cover and I also removed the cruise control actuator.

shake shake shake..... shake shake shake...

shake your booty! (sorry - couldn't help myself)

I put in the updated (gold) rack damper pin (mine was in fact silver) in the back of the Injection Pump. The stuff I had read said that if you put it all the way in, the engine would stumble and stall. That didn't happen on mine. I started the car with the pin about 1/4" backed out and while the motor was running starting to tighten. It was instantly better than before at 1/4" and as I tightened it stayed smooth. This was on a hot start, and even this morning on a cold start it remains smooth.

hmmm. Does that seem right? I'm leaving it screwed in pretty much all the way and calling it good unless there is a reason to keep adjusting?

I also did the engine shocks. Real shocker (pun intended), mine were pretty easy to compress after 23 years. I'm assuming they have never been replaced. Could be wrong. They were bilstiens. The new ones from the dealer were stabilis (sp?). I went ahead and got the mount kits for them as well. No trouble getting them out - plenty of room. An offset 10mm stubby wrench works great for the bolts on the stop.

To eliminate the little rattle I had left in the air filter housing, I put a small piece of hose between the housing and the valve cover (actually the bracket on the valve cover that has the throttle linkage).

Dang - she's never been so smooth and rattle free!
