95 E300D shift points

Please lead me in the right direction. From a standstill if I floor it, the car shifts to second at 5100 rpm and to third at 4100 and fourth at 4300. All shifts are crisp with no slip or flare. When driving normally it doesn't hold second gear unless you increase the acceleration rate right after the shift. It goes almost right to third, and almost right to fourth, I take this as what's called stacking. It also seems to not want to shift down unless the pedal is pushed all the way to the floor and then it is still not very quick about it. It responds quickly to manual shifting, which I have been using if a quick down shift is needed. I timed it to 60 mph and it takes about 15 seconds which is slower than what most others report. For some reason it can't get off the line, seems like the rear end is binding ( ?asc) or the brakes are dragging(they are not I checked) because once it gets to 30 it takes off. Seems worse when turning a sharp corner slowly, like it's using alot of power to overcome some type of bind. I would say it takes longer to get to 30 than it takes to get from 30 to 60. I have only had it for a few weeks but the previous owner was very good about changing fluids and mantaince. The fluid looks and smells fine. 161,000mi otherwise in great shape.

I don't think my car ever got to 5100 rpms. I would be scared it would blow up. They are slow off the line but cruise nice.

Shift points found in rough idle thread

I don't have time to look this up but I beleive I saw this recently in a thread on rough idling...search using that term and it should bring up quite a bit. It seems to me that 2500 RPM was mentioned as the supposed sweet spot...

In older models, mine is an '85, I believe shiftpoints are marked on the speedometer. If you notice that there are like thick roman numerals (I, II, III) on 35, 45 and 75 MPH respectively, but I'm not sure about the 1995 models.

I think these are the max speed on each gear. 35 MPH at 1st, 45 MPH at 2nd....etc.

You need to adjust the Bowden cable to put more tension on it. This will delay upshifts and make downshifts easier with partial throttle. On my '96 the cable is on the driver's side right by the brake fluid reservoir.
