Here is what I want to do: manual tranny from a 1980 300D into a 1985 300TD Turbo. Do I have a chance? On the assembly line, were W123's made to accept either manual or auto tranny, or are they totally separate/require cutting torch, etc. Thank you for the help!

As long as you have a donor car to swap parts from, it is a easy swap!

will the hole in the end of the crank where the flywheel bolts on where the flex plate was be machined for the pilot bearning needed with the manual?I once put a 318 dodge automatic engine in a truck with a standard and the pilot hole was there but not machined I did an eyeball job with a die grinder to fit the pilot bearning and truck ran for ten years with no clucth problems.Would love to put a 300 or 300 turbo engine in my 74 240 D?

I have asked that one before -- not an easy task to transplant engines from W123 to W115, and you would be messing up the weight balance of the W115, which handles so beautifully as is.
