Mystery part after simple oil/fuel filter change??!!

I found this part on the ground after a simple oil and fuel filter change. I don't recognize the part and its making me crazy. It is a rubber washer/ring with little triangle ridges pointing inward. (Picture attached). It's about 3 inches across. Could this have been stuck to the bottom of the cartridge oil filter when I pulled it out? Is it completely unrelated?

Should we guess the year and model vehicle, too?

The canister filter does have an o-ring on it... so does the lid.. but I've never noticed any triangles...

wonder if it is a spacer so a generic size filter would work ? there are two size of diesel filters I believe.

Does not look like any gasket I've ever used.

I figured it out.

I hope no one wasted any time on this. The screw on secondary fuel filter gasket came out of the old filter. I knew this had to have a stupid solution, I just couldn't figure it out.

oooh, I bet that was easy to figure out... kinda messy when you start the car, then stall due to no fuel... how did you separate the gasket from the fuel spin on?

I was going to say spin on fuel filter seal because its a flat gasket seal and not an "O" Ring. MESSY! ......had an aftermarket spin on fuel filter split open once on the my past 84 300SD....what a geyser, soaked everything including the hood liner. The diesel smell never went away!

Cheers
