Noisy Wheel Bearing? 124 E300D
hello, I've been trying to trouble-shoot a problem with my 124 E300D estate... about 2 months ago it started making a noise from the rear that sounds like an electric motor, mainly audible above around 20mph, increasing pitch with speed and not going away when coasting, suggesting it wasn't the diff but a bearing. Under 20mph, with the windows down, I can hear what sounds like a faint metallic 'swish swish' sound...
turns out after checking right rear bearing had play and was bad, and replaced it, but sound is the same. Other rear bearing has no play, and I've checked and topped-up diff oil. Could the other bearing be bad without showing any obvious signs of play, or does it sound like something else?
