FIXED IT!!

I posted a question on the wheel/tire forum of what I thought to be a "tire" noise. After switching tires from right to left and front to rear the noise is still in the same place. It is coming from the right-rear wheel area.It sounds exactly like a winter tire tread on dry pavement. When accelerating from a stop it sound like a small propeller airplane winding up for take-off.What I thought to be tire is NOT! Could it be a wheel bearing? After many miles of listening we determined it is isolated to one side. The right. When going around a right hand turn like an exit ramp the weight is off that side and it is quiet. This is characteristic of wheel bearings. But I need professional input before I tear into this job and find out it isn't the problem. There are so many experienced guy's here I know I'll find the cure. This is the first "rear-wheel" drive car I've owned.I know for SURE what a wheel bearing goin' bad sounds like on a front wh. drive. Are the sounds differnt?
Thanks for the help in advance.

My opinion is you've got the problem "backed into a corner" alright. You can lift the car and try rocking the wheel/tire in and out and see if you detect any movement. Sometimes it makes itself obvious in this manner, sometimes it's not that severe yet, more of a dry bearing problem. Since these bearings are sealed, it needs to be replaced anyways.

Fixed it!!

Well..I called fastlane(Phil) and the price on the bearings was so good I just bought two.I have read several posts the the rear wheel bearing is not a DIY'r.It was tough but I got it done! Now that I'm familiar with the procedure I will be very happy to share what I've learned. It is a little more extensive than changing your oil.But if I can do it
anyone can.It took me about 6 hours to complete the job. That included driving to my job to use a very LARGE
hydraulic press.200 ton.It was overkill but it's all they have there. If you need to change a wheel bearing and are having 2nd thoughts about DIY.Go for it!If you get stuck come here first.Someone will help you out.
Thanks Phil and Fastlane.
