I'm sorry to say that I've parked my 300SD until I can find a way to greatly reduce the amount of exhaust smoke. I feel sorry for those behind me and wonder what they MUST be thinking about "those damn junky old stinky Mercedes diesels".
Would Diesel Purge help? I've read the instructions and would like to know if just adding it directly into the fuel will do the job. Any recommendations? |

check the valves
Hi kelly:
First I would check the valve adjustment if it hasn't been done within the past 10K miles and then I would add Redline to your fuel tank. A whole bottle with the first tank and then half a bottle with the next few tanks. If you can;t find Redline then the Diesel purge will do, but run it straight thru a clean (new) fuel filter. (it's easy to do.) I've got a silver-blue 300TD that i've babied since new and it NEVER smoke, (until i forget to check the valves, about every 20K is OK) I have always used redline and to date I burn ZERO oil and virtually no smoke. good luck, |

Dracman, I just bought the car in December (for $1,000) and don't know if the valve adjustment has been checked. Knowing the guy that I stole the car from, I would say that they haven't been checked in a long time. Is this something easy to do or should I take it someplace to be done? I'm not that mechanically inclined.
Would you NOT suggest just adding the Diesel Purge straight into the fuel? |
