Post Letter to the forum:

This is to thank all of you who helped this amateur mechanic , diagnose, remove and replace my cracked head on my 82 300SD. You gave me the confidence and knowledge to attempt this myself. it also saved me TONS of $$$$$$$. Thanks again.... especially Brian C!!

Here, too. This forum has not only saved me a ton of money, turned a POS into a fairly nice car, given me the confidence to do just about anything mechanical, but is also entertaining as alll hell. Thanks mercedesshop!

Please, just remember to buy parts from Phil whenever you can to help keep this place going.

really would not be practical to own one of these cars without this forum, unless of course one has money to burn.I would not have bought my 91 300D 2.5 if i had not found this place first. Thanks to all who provide help and support and most of all to Phil for the forum. My $.02 Don

My '83 300sd ran like hell a few weeks ago when I bought it. Now it's smooth as can be, thanks to the library of information on this forum.

The vast majority here like myself are not proffesional mechanics. This site is like a pot luck supper. Take only what you want. Contribute what you can.
If this site did not exist I suspect there would be far fewer older diesel mercedes with character still on the road. They would be financially impractical to own in a lot of cases.
Who in there right mind can afford to take a twenty five to thirty year old car to a garage? Especially on a regular basis.
They are instead serviceable by the owners without really expensive equipment. The common experiences shared on site mean you are not alone either. The vast majority of problems that occur are brought to a resolution.
The tendered ideals also tend to guide people on repairs if needed. I suspect many like myself own these cars for many other reasons as well.
On occasion something really funny arises. This site is indeed priceless. Somewhere it was mentioned it is the number two site on the web in some fashion.
You will never be concerned about removing and installing a head again in the remainer of you lifespan. In fact you can help others do it now.

Glad we were successful in helping you get that job done. It's a bit of a challenge........as I have learned personally over several months.

Help is what we do here.

And, I'll second the request to support the forum by purchasing parts via Fastlane. Without such purchases, we're history.

And grizzled veterans of owning and maintaining about thrty benzes through the last twenty plus years still need to come here and ask questions on a regular basis.

I am talking about me.

Thanks guys.
