Turbo... this CAN'T be good
What next?
I've never been entirely convinced of the efficacy of this turbo, to be honest... it seems a bit slow no matter what, I assumed it was just old/slow/i expected too much. Now, I'm starting to think the turbo may be at least partially shot. I have installed an EGR block-off kit from Brian and removed the EGR completely from the car. Just below the metal plate that covers where the EGR used to be, on the engine intake side (and not the exhaust side) there is a straight pipe that goes down to a larger-in-diameter connector of some kind, and then another pipe that goes down into the top of the turbo or whatever it is. I just pressure-washed and de-greased the engine, and then gave it a good hard run 15 miles home. When I got there, there is oil pooling up on top of that larger-diametered piece, and dribbling down from there and covering everything else. At least I know where all the oil gunk that covers that side of the engine is coming from now. So what do I do? I was going to try to do a picture but I've lost my digital camera for the moment, it's in the house somewhere... is my description enough? |

There also seems to be a leak on the other side of the engine that just coats everything... and it's not the valve cover gasket as I had hoped, because I changed that a few weeks ago and it's still leaking. Starting to be afraid it might be the head gasket... no antifreeze in oil or oil in antifreeze though

I don't really get your description but it sounds like you are talking about the ARV valve.
As long as the turbo does not look like this, you should be happy. |

To make it pure and simple, my oil consumption is around 2 quarts in 5000 miles, and my turbo seems to be throwing oil into the air intake along the path where it forces air into the engine. The crossover pipe and the intake bit that it connects to are all coated in a thick oil sludge and oil is leaking out along the beginning section of that part of the system as the air exits the turbo.
Basically I'm turbocharging with a nice air/oil mixture, it seems. Now what? |

Sounds like the turbo drain lines that run into the lower oil pan. The one on top sounds like the feed tube. All have gaskets that can be replaced. Also O-rings. On the other side see if the oil filter housing is leaking next to the block. there is a gasket there that can be replaced. Check out "buy parts" top of page for the drain tube kit, oil filter housing gasket comes from the dealer ~ 3 bucks. Good luck.

If you were any near Houston, I've have you drive mine to compare and contrast. Anyone in NC who could do the same?

Not sure, it was an eBay picture. I'd bet the bearings went bad, let it contact the housing and the compressor kept ricocheting around.

I thought it looked like something got in and hit the blades.
