Well i first noticed problems when i would hear it clunking(like bad bearings), and lately it has been blowing the fuse out(twice in one week). Also, i took it to a mechanic to see if he could figure out why my car was running hot and he said the fan didnt' seem to be running at half it's normal speed. The mechanic told me that the fan should sound like an airplane. He also told me he could hear my brushes dragging(which you can). Question is, is this fan rebuildable at all? I would just buy a new one but they are 150 bucks aftermarket and a used mb one is 125 from my local euro salvage yard!! in light of this, is there another fan that is MUCH cheaper that will work the same/better and i can make fit? And one more question, will this fan not operating correctly cause the car to run somewhat hot at interstate speeds?(it runs around 100 with a/c on goine about 70-85mph) thanks

There is a possibility thet you may have motor windings that have shorted or otherwise gone bad. I suggest you bite the bullet and buy a new one, if you are sure the fan motor is the problem. This is the most cost effective approach. Otherwise you may spend endless hours trying to repair it in vain, and wondering if it isn't going to crap out on you during a road trip in the middle of BFE where the local shop will gladly replace it for about three times the amount. The $150 will buy you a lot of piece of mind.

I just replaced my Aux Fan for $20 plus a couple of hours in the junk yard, a cut thumb and one tick. Try calling the different salvage yards and ask if they have any MBs lying about. I had to go to four hulks before I found the exact match.
Now I'm trying to replace my A/C compressor clutch. Good Luck, Rich |

thanks for the advice, but the problem is no junkyards have any w126 chassis laying around. I've called every one within 50 miles of my house, a ton of salvage yards have them but no u-pull-its. maybe it's because the other salvage yards give more money for teh car then a u pull it. I have seen some w116 and w123's laying around, but no 126's.
thanks anyway though Ryan |

a lot of yards prefer to pull the parts themselves. They tell me they have had too many people damage items because they don't know how to dismantle things properly. I know I have broken a few things pulling mine apart for painting.
