Do I Really Need
I am replacing the water pump on my 1975 240D Mercedes . I really don't want the AC . I live in a cold climate and really don't have much use for it anyway . I took the AC core out , it was empty, no charge .Do I really need the outer fan if I don't intend to use the AC? I flushed the radiator and it had some rust (not bad). The radiator core was sitting empty for three years . I surmise they drained it when it was stored. The AC compressor works ok, pumps and everything. I plan on making BioDiesel
after a good reasearch on the subject. Is the 240D a good candidate for the Biodiesel? |

Every diesel I own runs on biodiesel. I never had a problem, the cars seem to run better on it and they smell a lot better. One thing to keep in mind , water in your bio will cause alot of damage to your injector pump and your engine over time. Make sure your bio is dry.

If you don't have A/C, you can get rid of the compressor, condenser, electric fan, evaporator, drier and associated lines. It will shave about 50lbs of metal off the car.
IMHO if you want biodiesel, your best bet is to buy it at a fuel station that sells it. |

Bio is corrosive to rubber, and maybe the fuel sending unit, and I know the primer. Replace all rubber with viton, and keep a stash of primers around, you're set.

Older diesels seem to run better on biodiesel than dinodiesel. Ask me how I know. *grin* Yes, you can take the stuff off. And I have an idea that might interest you ---- in exchange for those parts I can help you get down the biodiesel road.

My car uses the electric fan all the time when its over 90F outside....my gauge never goes above 85C though. And, my A/C is completely disabled and dead. The fan runs when the engine temp gets to a certain point. Always has. Oh well. Our '83 never turns the fan on....

My electric fan has been non-operative since the day I got the car, and the temp gauge never goes over 90ish, even in tennessee heat. I worried at first, but that temperature really stays stable. Probably doesn't hurt that the radiator was replaced a couple of years ago. And life with the windows down is better anyway.

I reinstalled Aux Electric Fan, I traced the wires down to the thermostat housing, I think it's needed on my 1975?
