617 throttle linkage adjustment (the cruise responds more than the pedal)

I've done a good bit of searching on the forum but can't seem to find the answer to this problem.

After completeing all of the PM on my 300SD (fluids, filters, valves, ALDA, purge), I still notice some crappy throttle response, and I believe it's due to excess play in the throttle linkage. I've come to this conclusion because the cruise control (still functioning at 273k ) produces more throttle response on accelleration than my right foot does.

I really don't feel that comfortable with just going in there and adjusting the rods willy-nilly, so I was wondering if anyone knew the correct order of adjustments or had specific measurements for lengths or gaps in certain areas.

Also, I have the vacuum line at my EGR valve blocked, but is there anything else I need to do to fully disable that system?

Check the rubber joint on the firewall. Chances are that it's in need of replacement.

Yeah, it seemed a little loose. Is there anything I should lubricate a new one with?

It's rubber, it shouldn't have anything put on it. Have a buddy press the throttle while you watch it and I bet you will find the rubber is split.

I can already see that it's split. Is there any other adjustment that needs to be made to the rest of the linkage?

I replaced mine

I replaced my throttle coupling (mounts on firewall) for around $50 for the part. Fairly easy to change.. I had a lot of play in the go pedal before anything would happen (no resistance for about the first two or three inches)

I have heard buy the OEM part, and not the cheap-o replacement. I think what happens is the plastic starts crumbling over time, kind of like a old wax candle.....

I am very satisified with the new feel.
