Nah I was to busy looking at the engine.:D

A thorough restoration for $50K? I think it would be better to just leave it as it is.

WHY DO THEY ALL SAY "MIGHT NEED A FREON CHARGE TO MAKE IT WORK?????"
estimating a 70K sale, put in the freon!!!

It doesn't matter, whoever buys it will tear it down for restoration anyway.

Ok, I received quite a bit of hate mail for the freon...Yes I could have charged it...I also could have changed the belts, hoses, and all of the fluids...But the idea is that I am selling it to someone for a complete restoration..and maybe my $50k figure is light.... Who knows. But I do know that if a pair of Mcqueen's sunglasses fetched $70k last year, the car has to be worth something!

If I start fixing it, I don't know where it would end...

Unbelievably , the air suspension works great...Go figure.

Obnoxio 08-06-2007 12:42 PM

Im proud to say I was the first bidder on that car. It went above my bid in 15 minutes.

dunl 08-06-2007 12:52 PM

If I was Bill Gates, do you have any idea how many of your cars I would own Herb? :D

I would have said and done the same thing. You dont know what kind of can-o-worms you might have opened by charging up the A/C. I feel your auction is honest and straightforward.

I had no idea that this car belonged to a forum member:o. I hope I didn't step on your toes by posting it Herb. It is a very nice ride I would love to own, sadly the starting bid was out of my range:rolleyes:.

vstech 08-06-2007 02:21 PM

and, I am not personally attacking you for the freon comment, I understand that you are selling this as a restoration project for a collector, but in almost every ad selling old MB's the compressor runs, and it "probably needs a shot of freon" it just grates on me... that's all.

I agree completely. If fit "needs a shot of freon" that means it has a leak. If it has a leak, it means it needs repairs. If it needs repairs, IT DOES NOT JUST NEED A SHOT OF FREON

That's usually the case, I just spent $1400 on my 240D that needed a charge.

However, in the case of this car, fixing the AC is a trivial expense.

JackG 08-06-2007 03:44 PM

I agree with you on this case. This is a classic that deserves to be restored. I was refering to the thousands of chevy's and fords sold on flea bay everyday that "just need a shot of freon"
