How do you perform a compression test?

I'm new to Diesels and I just picked up a 84' 190D 2.2L. I've done
compression checks on gassers but not on Diesel engines. What
do you do, disconnect the injector lines and crank it? Thanks.

you go get a test kit.. Harbor Freight has them

remove a glow plug.. screw in the fitting.. attach the lines.. remove the injector lines of course and crank..

the directions also assist in doing the test

I did one with the injectors removed. The injector lines were already removed at that point.

You can use the injector, or glow plug orifices. Just make sure all of either are out, otherwise you'll get a false reading.
