Speedometer part #

I'm trying to figure out why my speedometer is off by so much- 2 mph per 10 mph that the speed increases. I saw that KnightRider#### had the same problem. So, I have the stock transmission and 3.07 differential, so I'm thinking that someone swapped in the incorrect speedometer.

Does anyone have the part # (it is on the gauge face) for the speedometer in a 617.952 with a 3.07 (82, 83 and 84, I believe)? Mine says 123 542 18 57 and is the 125 mph kind.

On my '84 CD the number is 123 542 28 57 It reads to 125mph. The shift point marks are at 43 and 72 mph. The same thing was in my '82 D, don't know if that was what came with car, I believe the CD has it's original cluster. Don't know the rear gear ratio of either car. The CD is unmolested, I think. EDIT, first shift point is at 28mph.

My 82 300D (3.07 gears) has a 125 mph "123 542 27 57" that was originally from a 83/84. The 82s original came with those silly 85 mph speedos that must be replaced.

OK- mine has a different number and different shift points. Could it be from an '85? Anyone with an '85 want to go check...?

EDIT- my shift points are at 26, 47, and 76

FWIW, the shift points on my "123 542 27 57" are 29, 46, 77.

OK, thanks. I'm going to grab one of those out of the junkyard tomorrow. Hopefully that fixes it.

Before I head out there, anyone with an '85 want to post the part # of his/her speedometer? Just want to make sure I get the correct one.

is your speedo fast or slow?
if it's fast, you have an 85 speedo
if it's slow you have a 240 speedo
IF you are SURE you have a 307 rear gear.
oh, and if it's an 85 speedo, contact rgrassi, he is looking for an 85 speedo, I bet he would swap you his for yours and thank you much.

It's fast. I can drive behind my parents' V70, that car on cruise at 65, mine is registering around 77. The thing is totally off, but not off the same amount for every speed, probably 2 mph for every 10 mph I add to my speed.

I'll contact him- the odometer and trip meter both work. Just need confirmation that it is an '85 speedometer. Thanks!

The ODO and Speedo work on mine. The trip meter likes to stop and jump at 099.9. After a rest it counts to 099.9, and jumps again. The needle is more yellow now instead of orange. I need to paint it. The '82 only reads up to 85 MPH.

I am looking for a speedo from an '85. I do not need the entire cluster, but that seems to be the only thing available.

VS, I'm striking out of finding a good tach for you, so far.

OK- good to know you have one. If I can confirm mine is from an '85 I can send it down, but I'm not sure yet. Once someone with an '85 can chime in I'll know for sure.

Have you tried fixing the trip meter? Someone posted a crimping technique that gets them working again.

I just noticed the 85 in your sig- what is the part # on that one or your 83? You do have a lot of cars...

I have not had it apart. I have posted questions about the trip meter, and got the "never worked on the trip meter" replies. I was too afraid of messing up something else. The odometer is spot on. There is a mile/speedo check on a road closeby me. I check it every other month.

Sounds good. My odometer is off by a lot too, so I would have to guess that it is from the '85, but I'll see if John can get the number off his 85 first.

I'm looking for an 85 cluster if you know where one is.
