please help, accelerator doesnt do anything!!!

Ok, was driving down the road today, stopped for a minute, but never shut the engine off, when I went to take off, I stepped on the accelerator, NOTHING. The car idled just fine, but when i push the pedal, it does absolutely nothing. I shut the car off and started it back up with no problem, but still was not able to get the accelerator to do anything at all. I got out and manually pulled on the connector inside the engine compartment, and it still had no affect. Any thoughts on this???

At every oil change, I check the linkages, and every 6 months I pull, clean and lube the linkage ends.

One other thing that should be checked (at least on the linkages of an 85 300D series) is that in the linkage assembly bolted on to the valve cover the linkages are connected to rotating arms. These are on two shafts with plastic or nylon bushings. When the bushings wear, the arms wander up or down the shaft.

My quick fix is to cut a couple of pieces of 6mm ID hose and slide one on each side of the arm...this while I am looking for a pick and pull or nylon bushing I can machine down as needed. Seems to work.
