Always tricky buying a car sight unseen. I know someone who paid an MB dealership to inspect before he bought. Good luck.

I had my 126 car inspected by a dealership, up in Calgary, Alberta after making my deposite, before sending the balance to the seller. It is a suggested method, and I highly recommend atleast having an indie have a look at it first.

I wonder where in Orlando the car is.... if it is close to me I could at least drive by and give it a quick once-over for you?

Talked to the guy for a while. Seemed like a really good guy. Didnt even try to push the car on me like evryone else Ive talked to so far. He even gave me good tips to help finding decent ones for cheap in my area.
Hes an MB mechanic and guaranteed its in good running condition 329K miles on it right now but said its a well maintained car A/C is good but he said he still wants to replace the compressor on it Also said he wants to service the transmission before he evn thinks about selling it Said the front ewnd will need to be worked on in the next few years And all for only $700! If this car checks out to really be as good as he says it is, Id have no problem buying it Said hed send me some pictures via email Really a very helpful guy and a credit to MB enthusiasts |

Never buy a car without looking at it in person first. He may say its rust free and then you could find the floor is almost rusted through if you pull up a carpet.

Yeah. Thats the biggest problem. If I get there and it turns out that the car isnt what I expected, I have to find a car to rent and drive back home and be out $400 or so

Ok let me toss in here. I am the one quoted above, and Pete is the Indy that is selling the car. I met Pete when I got my first MB. I didn't buy from him, but from a friend of his( this is the guy that bought the 240TD from TX). Pete was there working on another Benz and did a walk through on the one I did buy. I have called him a million times over the past yr. or so. This guy eats sleeps and breathes MB........I have NEVER seen him clean. More than that, Pete has always been honest and upfront with me, regardless if it was lining his pockets or not. He really loves the older benz, diesel mostly, and goes to great lengths to preserve them. I have not seen this car personally, but I know he has been over this thing with a fine tooth comb. I have no problem taking him at his word as to what has been done and what needs to be done. One thing I did forget to mention BBJ is that he is not a fan of WVO/SVO......keep that plan to yourself. I would love to see some one here get this car, Rust free are hard to find and should be owned by some one who will care for it. That said, If things don't work out for BBJ, I will most likely get it and detail and flip it on ebay. If someone is in the area and would like to check it out that would be great. Not in Orlando proper though......just off Colonial.

Good point! You certainly wouldn't want to take the advice of somebody with as much experience as him anyway......

Just try and get a look at the car, or send someone from the forum, before you send this guy a penny for that thing. They do have rust in Florida, it just takes them a lot longer to rust, and it's very slow by comparison to the north-east...Don't allow yourself to get screwed, the way i did.. Nick

I've learned to always buy a round trip airline ticket when engaging in ventures like this. Make the return the following day and if the deal falls thru find a motel for the night. If the deal is good, the marginal difference in the round trip fair can be considered low cost return trip insurance.
