Changing Rear Main Seal on 3.0L 123
Has anybody replaced a rear main seal on a 3.0L 123 engine. I'm sure mine is leaking and leaking bad and I could use some tips and advice on changing it. I know I will have to pull the trans and upper oil pan but will I be able to change it without pulling the crank. Is there a gasket for the upper oil pan? I can't seem to be able to buy one. And do I have to pull the balencer to remove the upper oil pan? Any info would be great. Thanks

Instructions say you need to drop the crank. I have a theory that since the seal is in two halfs, the problem is far more likely to be in the lower half than the top half so it might be worth just doing the lower half.
There are other possibilities for a leak in that vicinity so make sure you rule them out before proceeding. Valve cover and oil filter housing to block gasket come to mind. I believe there's also an oil gallery plug at the back of the block.

Is the oil gallery plug between trans and block or is it accessible?
