Starting problems E300 Diesel

After removing the complete dash and instrument cluster to replace the evaporator core and carefully putting everything back together te car will start and run go down the road with no problem but if you turn the engine off and go to started again it will not start it will crank but not fire, you have to unhook the battery for a couple of minutes and hook it back up before it will fire. Also the battery was out of the car for about two weeks while the AC work was being done. Was wondering if it could the fuel shut off solenoid. Did anybody ever experience this kind of problems

If he doesn't......

With the hood up, you should clearly hear the shut off valve *click* open whenever the key hits pos 2. No click, no start.

Unfortunately, if it doesnt click open it does not mean that the shutoff is the fault (although it may be the problem), it could be the K40 relay that provides power to it. The K40 is the more common failure especially if it has never been replaced. K40 causes intermittent type failures and is easily replaced.

The bottom of the K40 can be taken apart and the minute cracks in the circut board resoldered if you have a strong magnifying glass and steady hand. For ~$80 I replaced mine rather than attempt to repair it. For me it was a time/money thing, others have enjoyed the challenge of repairing it themselves.

The above assumes you have put the dash back together correctly and are not having any other electrical gremlins.

Opp's. Just noticed in your signature that yours is a 95 rather than a 96/97 I was thinking of when I posted.

I dont believe you have a K40 relay; was this the last model with an OVP?.

How long did the replacement take?

If a person were having fuel line issues that were not noticed, would it be possible that during a protracted down time air could have filled the lines? Odd thought, worth a quick look.

95 E300D definitely has an overvoltage protection relay. I had the following issues:
no tachometer
rough idle
hard shifts (as a result)
no A/C (blower worked but not cold)

Replacing the OVP fixed them all.
