What motor is this in my 1991 350SD

According to the board, the 350SD never came with a diesel with a black valve cover. Can't figure this out. The car has 91k miles and seems perfect.. Any ideas? What motor is this..... It burns clean, uses NO OIL!!!!

Looks like a 603 with a painted or coated valve cover. Is the finish smooth?

Weird- they are usually pretty smooth. I bet if you take it off the underside will be the typical aluminum color. I do like the look, though- the black is different.

Probably the 3.5 liter with a dark valve cover. Can't tell what the engine is without looking up the block #. The color of the valve cover doesn't matter.

The engine number will be stamped in the top of the block, roughly near where the fuel filter bracket bolts to the block and/or head. Probably something like 603970-12-123456. Looks like the original engine to me. If it uses zero oil, I'd take it apart and replace the rods with the updated type, before it starts ovaling out the cylinder bores...!

Looks like someone did a horrible job of painting the valve cover.

Mines currantly polished, but I want to get it powdercoated eventualy.

Looks like they replaced the bolts with black allen heads too, I did the same thing. Looks much cleaner than the old 10mm hex heads.

WOW, that car looks like it's been converted to 134a freon... sad.
Hatt, how can you tell from that pic the BOLTS were changed? not enough detail for me, but they look like hex bolts to me.
a better pic would be needed to tell what else was done when they painted the cover. probably used the crinkle coat paint from auto parts store or wally world...

Maybe I'm mistaken. Maybe they just rattle canned it without removing it.
