With all the 0-60 discussion going on I was wondering if there is anything you can do to a diesel? Performance parts Etc..similar to what is available for gas engines. I have never heard of any.

with the way diesels are, i doubt a high performance diesel will beat a high performance gasoline car. It might be possible, but not in my lifetime, lol.

This is been brought up at least twice before:

I wish somebody would actually do it and tell us if it works. Maybe one of these days I'll buy an old 240 or 300 and do it, but I can't afford to trash the engine on the '99 if something goes wrong.

ITS A DIESEL!

hey tweek freaks,
My 78 300cd (3250lb.) vehicle is rated at 77hp. So you spend $500.00 to $1000.00 on installing nitrus to run a total of maybe 100hp? GET REAL! this motor is a torker not a winder, not to mention nitrus engines take a beating which defeats the purpose of the 617 motor. Go buy a cheap ride to tweek (Beetle, 5.0 mustang, Camaro) Diesels are known to be slow on acceleraton, good on economy, and outlast any gas motor. If you want to drag race sell your Benz and get a fuel chugging winder with lots of a/m hp improvers on the market. "hey man check this out, ........... my benz is going to go 0-60 in 10.0 seconds WOOOPEE!" CD in SC

The best you can do is turn your boost up and tweak your ALDA. But on cars of this age, there is a risk... and its up to you to decide if the cost of an engine is worth a few seconds' gain in acceleration.

There is a high performance 300cd out there. While at a MB show in Seattle I saw it. If I can remember, it was a 1985. The car had been lowered, interior gutted, repainted, and several engine and tranny mods. From looking at the engine I noticed a much larger turbo. There were a lot of other things going on in that engine compartment also. The guy races the car against other gas powered cars. He gave me a card and I took pictures. If I can, I will post them later. He also had stickers on the car. Philsmart Mercedes across the windshield and some others. I'll see what esle I can find out. andy

I remember hearing somebody computer modeling a diesel to see how much boost a diesel could take before some parameter cought up to its operation. They got up to 100psi and just kept getting more power out of it till they ran out of computer. If you could bolt the head to the crank...

A diesel is an "excess-air" engine. More fuel = more power = more heat until you run out of air, fuel or cooling!

With radical power boosts, your cooling systems may not be able to keep up. With even short bursts of power, like in a drag race, the metal parts like piston crowns, valves and combustion chambers will probably be running hotter than their design temperature.

Coolant #1, your oil, is circulated through the engine bearings and sprayed under the pistons. It will be getting a lot hotter, possibly heating it beyond its upper temperature rating and coking it on the piston, or at least breaking it down a lot sooner than you planned.

Heat may not transfer through the iron block to coolant #2, water/anti-freeze mixture, fast enough for you to see your radiator temperature go up much.

My $0.02.

Talking

You can do what the kids in the Hondas and Acuras do....put a badge from another Mercedes on the back or maybe even a big sticker like "POWERD BY MERCEDES".
