Vacuum system Tranny problems...ripping hair out

I have an '81 300D with over 200K on it. A while back I noticed the transmission started shifting "harder" especially between 1 & 2 and 3 & 4. It got worse until finally, nothing. I rolled off to the side of the road with the engine going strong but absolutely nothing in any gear.
I replaced the Power Brake booster vacuum line because it looked to have been repaired with electrical tape at one point. Still no go. I do notice that there is a hissing sound like air is escaping for about a minute after I turn the engine off. So, any suggestions for my next step? Thanks.

Considering ( no offense ) you knew you had a transmission problemand still kept driving, if it was me I would have it towed to a reliable MB indy mechanic and have him tell me what was wrong.

Exclamation

Gisele,

At this point you may have damaged your tranny. It may be more than your vacuum system...

I would have a indy shop take a lot at it.
