Question Is this a PCV or just an elbow OM603

I broke this thing tying to pull the hose off its on top of valve cover. I know its for the crank case ventilation but does it have a valve in it or is it just a elbow?

and does it have to have vacuum on it (hose from it to turbo intake)? if not can i just vent it to a bottle?

on a 602 it is just an elbow and it looks like yours is too, probably the same part.As far as the engine is concerned you can dump it to the atmosphere, however i am sure the air quality people will have a different opinion and that may be illegal where you live.

well my only concern would be oil splashing out, unless the valvecover has an internal baffle to prevent that.

you cant see it in the picture but it does not go strait into the valve cover it looks like their is some kind of baffle in there.

If this is for your '87 M-B, it is just an elbow. You can vent it to atmosphere if you plug the corresponding hose that goes into the turbo inlet, so you won't be sucking dirt in. The 603 has a sophisticated de-oiling thing in the top of the valve cover. It would be a better idea to replace the elbow and put the system back to stock. It does not hurt performance nor make the engine use oil.
