Question on ashtray lighting (124)
I'm using the ashtray lighting to provide light for my newly installed boost gauge (OK, it's only half-installed, but I need to procure some zebrano first), and have a question about the wiring. The little bulb socket actually has THREE wires going to it ... one (brown) ground wire and TWO (gray/violet) live wires. According to my diagrams, one of the vio/gr wires comes from behind the radio, the other comes from the warning module. Those two wires are soldered together onto one of the prongs on the back of the bulb socket (the ground is soldered to the other). I was planning on using crimp on disconnects ... I have a pack of 22-18 guages. The wires are 18guage. My question is, how should I go about connecting the two vio/gr wires to the guage? Can I run them both into the same crimp-on disconnect (of the next gauge up)? I definately want the connections to be the disconnects, because I plan to re-do the area when I get the zebrano panel fabricated and need to be able to remove the gauge. I hope this makes sense. I'm new to wiring in general and don't want to make any stupid mistakes. It seems to me as though the two vio/gr wires could just be crimped together (since they're soldered together in the factory ashtray setup) ... is that OK?
