How do you remove the door check pin on an 87 300DT?

Hi folks,

Believe me, I searched this question quite extensively, but it seems most other model owners do not have a door check pin with an end that does not permit it to be hammered upwards like a regular home door pin.

I really feel stupid about this one, but how do you get this pin out? the purpose is to put a new door seal on.

Thanks,
Bob

There is a little retaining clip on the end of the pin. Grab it with a pair of needle nose pliers (or even your fingers) and put out towards you, ie, not down. The pin is not real tight and you should now be able to pop it up and out. There should be one or two little plastic washers in the assembly as well. Don't loose these and reinstall when you reassemble.

aeroslat,

thanks for your reply. as i was a little preoccupied with removing my passenger front seat today, i did not have time to try out your suggestion. i'll try it tomorrow with a hammer and metal punch in hand

i finally got it out...by cutting off the end. i tried everything, including trying to heating and screwing off the end cap...if it was even unscrewable. since the end was larger than the hole, i am stumped on how they even got it on.

so i cut it off as low to the pin's height as possilbe and just tapped it out. came out easy.
