Arrow 83' 4spd 3rd gear hits blank spot?

I'm having a ploblem when shifting to 3rd gear on my 83' 240D 4spd.
when shifting into 3rd gear, normally you can push the shifter all the way to the right and up into gear. But if you do that, it just slides on past third gear and off into a blank spot. is there like a shifter guide or something?

I would look at the rubber "gromits" on the tranny shift arms that connect the shifting rods to the shifter.

Pull the boot up and take a peek at the shifter mechanism. If you cant find anything on the outside, maybe its in the tranny. Think I would crawl under and have someone go through the gears and make sure its not in the linkage.

Check the adjustment of the shift linkages and arms too.

usually, the proper way to shift into 3 is go to neutral, release the shifter then push up on most standard H tranny's all the way to the right pushes you into the R gate. where is R on a MB 4sp?

I remember "test" driving my first MB 4 spd I pulled into a driveway to turn around, requiring backing up, where the hell is reverse ?? One doesn't usually think about pulling up on the shifter, at least I didn't.

Underneath your car at the tranny there's 3 L shaped rods that hook into the tranny shift levers. Possibly one of the rectangular locking washers broke or fell off a rod, happened to me once. If so, they're the same as used on the the AT single cable actuator. If you need a quick replacement until you get the real thing you can use a locking c washer. I did that but never trusted it.
