Oil Experts - Anyone use Maxtron Synthetic?

I have a 98 E300 and 05 E320cdi and tend to change the oil myself and also for other family members with MB cars.

I would like to get a 30 or 50 gallon drum of oil for this purpose since it is more efficient than the quart or gallon jugs at Walmart.

In searching for an appropriate oil for the cdi I found the Maxtron drum listed on amazon. Anyone have any experience with this? (or an opinion)

It seems that I may not find "Approved" oil for the cdi in a drum (at a "reasonable" price), but I am looking for the closest that I can get.

I do not want to start an oil thread on the suitability of oil for the cdi as there are not many that are "approved". I plan on just finding something that is close and running with it. We have cdi's in the family that have been running on unapproved oil for 100,000 miles to-date. Realise that some oils are close, but the oil companies do not spend the $$ to get them approved and also that we live in a temperate climate area where we do not see too many super hot ot sper cold days in central PA.

Any Ideas or Opinions on Maxtron or other?

Thanks in advance

The only Maxtron oil I see for diesels is a synthetic blend, which won't cut it in a CDI.

OK, I was in a rush and missed the "blend" (key information). nontheless, anyone have any idead for an oil that I can get in large volume that may come close to meeting specs for cdi?

Or is there anyone out there that does his own oil changes on a cdi and what do you use?

For a 2005 model year CDI, only use an oil from the 229.5 or 229.51 lists found here: http://www.whnet.com/4x4/oil.html

You can get AMSOIL in a drum, but I'm not sure if it would be suitable for your application.

Amsoil European Car Formula 5W-40 meets the 229.51 specs for MB. Is that blend available in drums?
