What do you think they are worth ? 1984 300d

Hello everyone-
I know it has been a while since my last posts. So long story short and to the chase.I must sell one of my 1984 300 d (only because I got my hands on a 1985 300SD from the original owner who would only sell to me under circumstances-license plate SHATZEL must be kept on the car-German for sweetheart she has SHATZEL 2 on her 2006 320 CDI).Since somebody in my house said you have to get this-I am being flexable by selling one to a good home so here are the descriptions.

1984 300D (Golden Princess)-Immaculate-151K miles everything works perfectly.Paint perfect, newer air condtioner (134) new tires, shocks etc.All work done by Enrique Mr.MB Motors (who else where I live).Only defects are rip in driver sheepshin cover and engine hood pad came off.

1984 300D (Miss Bessie) This southern belle is nice.230K miles.Inside is my seats and other things from my wrecked 1985 (you remember the unlincesed little witch with the new Nissan truck at school who decided to pull out in front of my and I flipped her-Enrique was able to even save the engine for someone else bless his heart).Newer tires paint has been touched up, blue.
Nice looking car with the German headlights and Zerbano shifter.Defects are cruise control does not work and sunroof does not open.Enrique thinks its the actualtor (not the amplifier that usually goes out) for the cruise and he says when he has time he has to take the headliner off to figure out the sunroof. It has the 134 air etc.and it will have a new ignition lock (when it gets warm and steering wheel is locked-car will not start until wheel is unlocked).

As well if anyone is interested I am in Bakersfield and will rotate them with Enrique if someone wants to test drive etc. Thanks and hope everyone is doing fine and I hope we all said grace when Daimler Chyrsler divorce became final on July 22,2007 and maybe they can get back to building these again.

Mercedes Benz-Engineered like no other car in the world

It really depends on condition (and location). A friend of mine recently sold a pretty decent 84 300D (about 130K miles) for $12K (he works for a used benz dealer and sold it off their lot where it was probably by far the cheapest car). For a private sale $6-8K is probably more realistic for a nice one.

But would anybody knowledgeable here really pay that much for one of these? I have no idea who it is that pays that much for these cars.
Are you paying that much for the SD? They are certainly worth less than what you're giving for the SD...... (sounds nice, though)

I probably would have paid $10K for that car (not $12K) if I was shopping, it was very decent looking and it was just about mechanically perfect (I would have replaced the steering box because it was a tad loose for my liking).

For $5K you can buy one that "needs work" and end up spending much more in the long run if you want to make it perfect.

I bought Silver Bullet from a guy in TX; 148K, eBay, sale dependent on my final inspection. Paid $8K. Why? The guy had most of the usual rehab work done: new AC all around (maybe save evap) running R-12 blowing 40 degrees on 95 ambient days. All the vac lines/parts under the hood look new. Perfect new MB diamond silver paint job with several acrylic top coats. Half axels and boots cherry. No leaks or driveway stains. New switches all around. New sound system. All vac pods working. Interior, seats, carpeting and tinted windows cherry. Squeals tires and is under 13 to 60mph. Given what I didn't have to do and the car received, it was a good deal.

Drove it back to MD, did a thorough safety check and DIY'ed my traditional R&R's, needed or no: all new steering linkage, new races and bearings, balancing, alignment, and, testing all calipers, replaced two, each having one frozen piston.

In your case, it will be the car's condition, location, performance and what the market will be at the time you want to sell it. Capitalism...gotta love it.

Good luck.

About 4 months ago, I bought an 83 300D Turbo from the original owner for $3,000. There is no rust and only one small dent on the drivers side rear quarter panel. It has been garage kept all it's life. I spent another $3,000 on parts to get it back into good mechanical condition. Steering parts, AC, Tires, etc.

The point being that this car sat for sale in the owners yard for a long time before I bought it. He had been trying to sell it for $4,000 with no takers. The power was weak, the paint was faded, the steering had slack, and the AC didn't work. I did all the work myself (with the remarkable help of this forum!) and I have a great car now. I have over $6,000 invested. The car has 205,000 miles. I love it.

Kevin
