Hi all,

I've been looking for a part number for a 96 E300D Injector Pump. Does anyone know what that part number is?

Thanks

Only $1259 more than I paid for each one of my cars. What kind of problems are you having that's making you suspect the pump?

I have heard you can get the pump rebuilt for under $1000 so before considering buying a new one do some searching on this board. There is a shop out west known for doing good work on them.

HOLY CRUDDOLY! I knew they were expensive, but those numbers are mind-boggling. I'm glad the prior owner of my car put in a new one 20k miles ago. YIKES!

Cheers, John

You had issues with over torquing and with possibly disturbing the valve (element) itself if I remember correctly?

Call:

Gus Pfister
Pacific Fuel Injection Service
153 Utah Ave,
South San Francisco, CA 94080
(650) 588-8880

He will repair it or sell you one of his rebuilds for ~$1000.

Yes, I'm thinking that it has come to this. For the rest: I had a leak at the IP, so I changed the DV seals. Ever since, I've had nailing. I have done the job over again (more than once), but that did not have any change. I found a used IP that I was thinking of buying (wrecked 98 TD) and he wants $250. I thought if they were the same part number, then that may be an option for me.

You are better off getting your pump rebuilt than starting with someone else's junk anyway. If they are willing to sell a IP from an OM606 for $250 it will probably need to be serviced first anyway and if you're lucky would be fixable. Sometimes they just remove them with a crowbar.

Do you have any other problems other than the nailing??? How bad is it that you would consider replacing the pump?

The 98 version of the OM606 is turbocharged - I'd expect the part numbers (and injection pumps) would be a bit different.

How much have you driven your car since you changed the delivery valve seals? I've done this job twice, once on an OM602 and once on an OM603 and both times after I initially started the engine I had a significant amount of misfires/nailing/knocking. The symptoms gradually disappeared over the course of 100-200 miles - I have no idea why this occurred but the behavior was very similar both times I've done the DV seal job.

I have the nailing, which is very loud at idle. I also have gray smoke on start-up with the engine surging from (roughly) 500rpms to 750rpms. When I stomp on the gas, I get black smoke. The only other thing I can think of, is that some dirt got into the system, and i causing a bad spray pattern. I've driven it for @ 500 miles to see if the symptoms would leave, but it sounds exactly the same. Buying the IP was just going to cost less than getting mine repaired/rebuilt, so I was just checking to see if it was an option.

Hi,
did you noticeably damage something when changing the seals?
Clean it up again, crank with injection lines diconnected to the injectors.
Still nailing: Injector(s). Maybe you can locate the nailing injector by loosening line after line. Dirt in the injector would be my opinion, sometimes it goes throuh somtimes it stays. Replace injectors or open/clean the bad one if you find it.

Tom
