blown fuses

Just curious about the fuses in some of these cars. Today I blew the fuse for the instrument cluster almost immediately after I started the car. Is it common for the fuses to blow on these cars? I am mainly just curious if I am going to have to stock up. There should have been no extra pull on this particular fuse when it blew.

I haven't used my car very much. I did replace all the fuses with new ones. The previous owner had problems with the A/C-heater blower blowing the fuse when on the high or max position. I used the copper or brass fuses and had no problem. I bought some at Advanced auto. Sometimes they have the brass ones other times the aluminum ones. I see one copper ones sold in set on E-Bay. Might check with Phil.

these open style fuses do fail on their own. I would not only stock up, I would preemptively replace them all with new copper with ceramic body fuses.

I was wondering if it would be reasonable to look for a short in the system if a particular fuse blows out repeatedly. What would be the first thing you would suspect assuming you had ruled out defective fuses?

I would look at the ground for the circuit. If it has a motor in the circuit, I'd see if the motor needs replaced. Something like the brushes are worn down. Frayed or cross acring wire as stated before. Also, other sensors or stuff in the circuit that may be malfunctioning.

I too had a problem with a fuse blowing when the a/c was on max. it would work for awhile.....20 min. or so then blow. I also noticed it seemed to blow when pulling out quickly. I solved the problem by installing a circuit breaker instead of the fuse. Now if it "blows" it will reset itself and I am still protected.
