Manaul Tranny Question
Are the 4 speed manual transmissions for a 79 240D and 81 300D the same? What about the shift rods and clutch?

The 300D did not come with a manual unless it's a gray market import.
As for the euro 300D and the manual 240D, the tranny and clutch are the same but the shift rods are shorter on the 300D. |

Do you have access to a 1981 300D with a 4 speed?

For all practical purposes the two would be the same. Early shift arms are fitted with a splined shaft, and the rods are a little different than the later ones. (they can be "shortened or lengthened easy) The clutch & P/P are the same but the release bearings are different. The 300D tranny was the same as the ones used in the 240Ds.
