OM606 turbo engine characteristics

Hallo Everybody!

I both the motor 300TD from E-class'98 (OM606.962) and I mounted it in my G-wagen. I would like to control this engine not by original computer but with my own electronics.

Therefore I am very interested in any characteristics, graphs, descriptions of this motor. Eg. I need data about turbo charger pressure.

Can you help me?

How about using a mechanical pump from a 603 instead? The only electronics that uses is idle speed.

Check out my YouTube page, I have a few 606 technical update videos.

First I am going to fight with the electric  I am automation engineer so I like to do it. I intend to use my own programmable logic for the inj. pump and turbo charger. In a week comes an important off-road event so it has to go quickly :dizzy2:
In the next days I will report about how it works, at now urgently need infos :scream:

If I understand correctly you don't want to remove and throw away the ECU, rather to "chip" it using your own program?

That being the case the chip companies might have some of the info you are looking for on thier websites.

SpeedTuningUSA and RocketChip do the 606.962 and there may be others.

Another case. I have no ECU but my own free programmable logik, that can control the IP and TC.

Thats certainly the simple way for those of us that can't write programs and code.

I'm thinking if you are capable of programming and udnerstanging this that you should be talented enough to get into and read what MB programmed and copy or tweak it into your own parameters and program. Suspect a full shop with dyno would probably be helpful in doing that so you could see what your tweaks are doing in real time.

Not at all. I am industry programmer and not automobile programmer. In the industry there are similar processes but other methods and equipment. In my off-road vehicle it is all made of industry automation standards and I could also connect the engine to this system. It is all water tight and it never failed yet. See here:
(it is the lower box, the PC is mainly for GPS)

It sounds like you can teach us a thing or two...please educate us when you have had a chance to get it together!

Mmm...I could really enjoy a G-wagon with a 606.962 in it, I think. Please keep us updated and tell us more about the conversion -- it's a rare beast to find a diesel G here in the U.S.

Cheers, John

The engine was tuned to 420HP in Finnland, with a tractor TC :D
I try to get maximal torque at low rpm...
