A Real Champion, A Real Gem

Notice the guys feedback. Only needs $600 worth of bodywork and paint. It looks way worse than my 300TD did and I can tell you know $600 isn't going to buy you much in professional body work. Read it all, what a laugh. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=014&category=6330&sspagename=FavMerch_SO%3ASI%3AIT&viewitem=&item=33016303 5063

hoo wee, if that's a palomino interior that car has seen A LOT of sun..either that or a bad camera..and with those rust holes who knows what it looks like underneath

Douglas.Sherida 09-08-2007 08:09 AM

I was looking at that auction yesterday and I swear that there was only one bid and it was at $3000. Today its 5 bids and its at $1125.

I'll be watching this one closely, since I also have an 85 that I need to sell in similar condition.

FWIW, the exterior on mine is covered with rust, but there are no holes into the cabin, except under the spare tire (floor pans are fine). The rust is a real heartbreaker, because the engine, tranny and interior are so nice.

Agreed that this guys description is full of it. He's not lying per se, but he does omit things. He's also hyping meaningless crap, but there is no law against the use of adjectives in car sales.

ujourdan 09-08-2007 08:13 AM

Hey, what's a little rust? After all you are buying a "maintenance free" car according to his claim.

rick surgent 09-08-2007 08:27 AM

Guys, Im looking for a wagon, preferrably 3 seat, I'm in nj. If the rust isnt to bad I think this one would be ok for around 2k. Snow is your red one still for sale? Don , how bwd is your rust?? Rick

What the hell is up with that hitch ball bolted into the bumper?

Good way to lose a bumper.

charmalu 09-08-2007 10:26 AM

It`s not the rust you see that is the problem, it`s the rust you don`t see that is the problem.
I think the guy forgot to add the extra zero to the body repair.

typical e-bay words. "ever so powerful, bullet proof, maintenance free, easy fix, surface rust, etc...

charlie

Hatterasguy 09-08-2007 10:33 AM

That is a very tired example. Put it under a lift, but it has a ton of soft spots.

JimmyL 09-08-2007 10:39 AM

Can you imagine trying to loosen any bolt that is under the car. That thing is probably rusted up solid underneath. And I bet that engine ain't pretty either.
It is a shame that a pretty nice interior is wrapped up in that Titanic-like package.......
Oh, and never-mind the 99,000 mile odometer discrepancy.....
The funniest line in the whole ad "Yes, I am a car dealer" REALLY?????:idea3:

Mine ends Monday, no third seat, structual rust has been cut out and new metal welded in. This took a lot of time last summer and I will never do it again. I'm actually getting good at it, making up templets, cutting, welding, etc... but it takes time and is hard on my 44 year old body. I've got 3 kids, twin 2.5 year old boys and a 7 year old daughter. If someone came to me with a car and said hey do this for rust repair and paint it for $600 I'd say ya right. FYI, my reserve is only $1,600 on my car which seems fair to me. Its a good beater wagon for someone who wants to experiment with WVO and is here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1982-Mercedes-300TD-Diesel-Wagon-WVO_W0QQitemZ320153792922QQihZ011QQcategoryZ6330QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Some 300TD’s just look plain old worn out an tired and neglected, this car has a nice classy look.

Hah. :D

TheDon 09-08-2007 12:14 PM

I hope your wagon is still up for grabs when I get the cash Anowsquall..I lust for one(w124)

chasinthesun 09-08-2007 12:15 PM

Whats a chrome cargo carrier go for ??,its a factory spec model for a 300td.

Douglas.Sherida 09-09-2007 11:55 AM

He's at it again: 330164163993

Different car, same lies.

32 mpg. Bull!

Car was rated at 22-25 mpg by the EPA when new.

Douglas.Sherida 09-09-2007 11:57 AM

And again: 330164165010

It says "description coming soon".

I wonder if it will be a real champion, perhaps even a real gem.

I bet the extra ball on top, is just there for storage or something... probably just sitting there in the space between the body. I don't think the rear hatch would open with that ball mounted there... that hitch installed under the bumper looks fine to me. VERY nice example of a TD... L.A. of course... and WAAAAAAAAY out of my price range.

this thing best be pristine to have a 4200 opening bid!!!

lietuviai 09-09-2007 12:42 PM

You should read some of this seller's neg feedbacks.

bgkast 09-09-2007 12:49 PM

I'm digging that glopy fiberglass repair job. Looks like somebody coughed up a hairball on the car!

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...1/IMG_3238.jpg

asnowsquall 09-09-2007 01:24 PM

"somebody coughed up a hairball on the car!" :D

Why is it some of the wagons rust there? Does the trim vibrate and rub, or just moisture hangs out?

Hatterasguy 09-09-2007 05:04 PM

I should have talked my 300SD up more, bet I could have gotten some extra money for it.

Insted of saying, its a rusty driver I should have said. "Its perfect a real gem!":D

asnowsquall 09-11-2007 06:09 PM

My $500 Champion Gem that will go 500K easy!

Being the addict that I am, as soon as my auction ended I had another used 1985 300TD Gem lined up so today I put a deposit on it.
Its a GEM for sure, but no hairball.

Notice the classic air scoops in the front of the hood. This hood looks much better in person, very nice waves. The previous owner had a little hood flip open surprise, hence the new windsheild.

rick surgent 09-11-2007 07:08 PM

You are in extreme need of some mental help!!!!!!!:D

Ara T. 09-11-2007 07:56 PM

On the plus side, the ebay seller redid the rims :D

No sense in leaving a turd unpolished.

Hatterasguy 09-11-2007 09:54 PM

Wow thats beat even for a parts car!:D

funola 09-11-2007 09:59 PM

I was wondering why you folks are having so much fun with this Ebay seller. Either this guy can't read or he is a lier. His listing clearly states it has "Miles: 104000". Yet a pic of the odo shows an extra 100,000 miles

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff191/unitedsport1/IMG_3211.jpg

I wonder if the sucker winning bidder can get a refund based on the huge mileage discrepancy?

I'm just wondering if it will pass inspection so I can use it as a winter bomb. Hey, all it needs is ______, and _______, and __________, and _________, but the exhaust and the windshield are new!

It has the 3rd seat and not the my kids will ever be in this car, but I asked the wife if I had a nice clean wagon and it had the 3rd seat will you let me put a kids in the back. She says no, and after looking at this some more I think I agree with her. There isn't a lot of room, and who ever is back there in the 3rd seat will be thrown towards the vehicle that hitting you.

It is! Its a real champion, a real gem!

The good news is : The Jack Points are Solid!

Of course the fenders and doors are rotten, and the drivers side floor is so bad that the worn out seat is leaning to the left (look at the seat back in the picture of the open trunk).

Oh yeah, while the odometer reads correct this time, it obviously isn't the original gauge (black button vs silver buttons).

This guy should be stopped.
