Sunroof won't open/close and leaks where are the drains?
I have just started driving my 300d after lots of R+R and more to go yet. But we loaded up the kids and started off for a 30 minute drive and backing out of the driveway my newborn baby got about a cup of water spilled on his face from the sunroof (sliding roof) corner nearest the rear drivers side.
OUCH! I wouldn't have cared as much if it were me Anyways, the roof looks like it's closed but it must not be sealing well. Also, I'm not at all familiar with the MB sunroof's. I've searched and saw a thing or two about cleaning drains. Is the sunroof designed to not seal completely? I just wonder why there are drains if it's supposed to seal?

First, the sunroof doesn't "seal" water out. The design is such that the sunroof openning in the outer roof is larger than the openning in the inner roof. The openning in the inner roof is "sealed" by about a quarter to half inch high "cofferdam" or raised surface relative to the surrounding area. The surrounding area is then sloped to collect and direct water leaking into the space between the inner and outer roof down a small drain hole in each A pillar and then out a sizeable drain line that goes down each "C" pillar in the rear. The front drains run out in front of the doors and the rear ones run out in the rear wheel wells, I believe.
A vacuum line of about 3' length works fine for clearing the front ones, which are located right up in the front corners of the inner openings. The rear ones are not anything I have seen. But they are not usually the ones that are clogged. Good luck and I hope this helps. Jim

There is a hand crank in the trrunk, to operate the sunroof. Did your R&R include lubing the sunroof. A little grease goes a long way in getting/keeping a sunroof operating. Open your sunroof, clean the drains as descibed in the previous post, use an authorized sunroof grease and if everything is mechanically smooth, start troubleshooting the electrics. LOL

I have the lifting arm on the pass. side out. It was cracked. Also there are some other parts that connect to that which are out due to the lifting arm being out of place. So... if I can get it all apart I'll be doing some JB. weld on these old parts.
