Some pics from MBZ museum and some other goodies.

http://winmutt.com/album/de.trip/mbz/

This was a day trip we took on 9/9. The on the road cars were taken whenever we saw one. There was one SWEEET looking W116 in my omi's (gmom) dorf but I never got to take a pic.

[edit] I used Jalbum to make this, if you guys haven't used it, it is hands down the best photo album maker out there. It even auto rotates pics! If you guys want any originals (5-7.2mp) send me a pm and email address.

My new desktop background of the week :

Very cool and you are very lucky to have seen that, thanks for sharing. Looking at one picture of a combination triangle and gas can - that could be a new group here or a new thread, the triangle gas can club.

I specifically took that picture for that exact reason... Although I have to say the combo electric razor and flashlight was pretty cool to .

Great pics, mutt! Is that silver TD (next to your lovely Mrs. I assume?) the one in question?

And what's the story with that blue COE-esque car hauler? That's pretty wild!

That is a trip I'd love to make someday. My wife is 50% German (Middendorf) and my maternal grandfather was 100% so we'd both like to trace our roots back.

The gray one is indeed the 5 speeder and that is indeed my wife. I really wish the windows were rolled down so I could take decent incar shots.

great to see the 123 wagon in there. Proves that it's a true legend of a vehicle.

Key chains postcards and some other trinkets. I was really kind of disappointed in the gift shop. Mostly the exchange rate was what did it. Cheaper to buy here....

Thanks for sharing, makes me want to reminisce:

I last visited the museum back in '81, when I was a whopping 10yrs old. Looks completely different (I have pics from that trip which refresh my memory). The one thing I remember clearly was in the gift shop, hanging high up on the wall were the Euro prices of all the '81 models. They were basically 60% what it would cost you in the States. This was back when the Euro cars didn't meet any smog laws, and I remember my old man contemplating buying from the factory and having it shipped over (something his dad did back in '64, the 230SL I drive now).

Didn't happen, but when we got back he bought my mom a new 4sp 240D. Bare bones except for cruise control and a sunroof...didn't even have a passenger side mirror. Cost a whopping $16k...a load of cash back then, esp to my parents who bought our house 4yrs earlier for $60k (house is easily worth $750k now...ouch).

Anyway, my mom babied that thing, but it started to rust 6yrs later, despite all the pressure-washes it went thru during the winter. We got $9k for it, only had 100,000 on it in '87. I was glad b/c I was 16yrs old and couldn't stand being limited to 90mph. Was real frustrating b/c I took several trips up to Canada that summer and everyone up there would do an honest 100mph (even flying by stopped cops), I couldn't keep up.

How old is that museum? I was there in 2002 (summer) and they had no such thing! Looks like they went nuts and built a megamuseum! I want to go back now!!!

However, we DID get to go on a FULL factory tour, something the average citizen can no longer do. (You only get the tour if you do euro-delivery and buy a new car) My dad talked with the person in charge and explained how he worked there and his parents history there...and they let us into the tour.
