I don't think the CAT filter will even fit (physically). It certainly won't fit on a 606 motor, not even close. The MB spin-on fuel filter is very good to begin with, and not very costly anyways, so the benefit of the CAT just isn't there on an MB.

I'm using one on my '96 Passat TDI.

You could swap it out for a deutz filter assembly.

Anyone have any idea about fuel flow rate for our Diesels?

Have a look at the Racor 120RMAM, 2 micron marine filtration system...

http://www.usdieselparts.com/pdf/pdf/Section02.pdf

These are a pretty compact installation. Part number R12SUL, 32 bucks.

Bear in mind, 2 microns means changing the filters considerably more frequently.

Well i think it's rated @ 10 micron and since i already buy them for my jetta i'd assume go ahead and convert it over as well. I don't see why it won't fit there's a good 2 foot of clearance on my 82 300 turbo diesel just need a filter head like the tdi conversions i'd just have to find out how to plug the heater valve hole up. But i think any diesel could see good results since the 2-10 micron range is worst particle size for ip and injector wear granted these diesels aren't as picky cause there pressures aren't as great but still.

I don't know if you would gain anything over the OE filter, but thats a nice little filter. It should flow enough.

The sticker in the engine bay for my 240D, the one on the right side that lists the valve clearances and so forth, has fuel flow rate as "0.45 mm^3 / stroke" or something like that...Knowing the density of diesel oil (probably a table value) and the RPM of the engine, you could figure out how fast in gpm, cc/sec, or something else of that nature.

Density of Jet-A is 6.7 lbs. per gallon; standard day. That's all I know from a couple hours in the 727.

If you figure 25mpg average, traveling at 75mph will use 3 gallons of fuel per hour. The unknown would be how many gallons per hour get cycled back through the return system? The 120RMAM is listed at 15gph so likely that would be fine. RT

I would have thought so too, but the CAT2 fuel filter I use on my TDI is good for 100,000 miles I'm told.
