lost my 1984 300sdt. totaled head on

Someone totaled my 1984 300sdt by hitting me head on. Heads up It was sent to Baton rouge for auction. Show room shape prior to accident. They wanted to resell it to me for 2 grand and I refused. I cried and cried but accepted it's death. Wish I could find another but that may never happen. Had 118.000 on car. Ray M

The normal buy back on a totalled car is 1/10 of retail value. They think your car was worth 20K? Get them to pay you that!

Sorry to hear of the loss.

Glad you are oK.

It was my wife and in another car she would be dead instead of banged up badly. They only offered 12,000. I had to fight for that and still think I got stiffed. Ray M

What kind of vehicle hit you?

Sorry to hear of your loss, and glad to hear the car protected your family.

It is a terrible loss, but life is always more important than a car or money. Be thankful that is what you were driving, or things may have not come out well. Thats one of the major reasons to drive these cars (and MBs in general) is that when the day a car hits you in a major collision, you will likely walk away....not so in many many other vehicles out there.

I'm glad your wife is OK. 35-40mph in a head on collision is not that slow. That's like hitting a stationary barrier at 70-80mph.

Ouch. Happy to hear everyone is OK. These 126s are really amazing when you think of the crumple area, and how most of the car is designed to manage energy in a crash. Even the driveline is designed to collapse, using the entire mass to absorb energy. It seems more Engineering went into these cars then Today's cars. Seen the new Lexus commercials with "Active Safe"? Mercedes had active belt pre-tensioners in '85 LOL.
Simply amazing these cars can take incredible amounts of abuse due to good engineering and good materials.

glad everyone is ok. Good thing it was in a W126 and not a kia or something. I bet you can get a really nice example of a W126 for around 12k... but if you really want to fight them for the full value you had it apraised for

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, but I agree with others that $12K isn't bad. In fact I'd say that's very generous, especially from an insurance company. The only problem will be finding another car like that if it really was in showroom condition. How did the pickup truck fare and what kind was it?
