I need to find myself a woman who has decorating skills, since I'm completely stupid when it comes to these things. :P Should I get the palomino velourmat (Dash is black, car is tan), or should I get a black mat to match the black dash? Sorry for all the questions, I just want to do this one time, and get it done right. :)

Instinct says "Get the black one, moron.", but in the back of my mind, I keep wondering if I should get one that matches the carpeting. Have to wonder how good that would look, though...

It might look good, but it'll be annoying when it reflects on the windshield and reduces visibility. Do the black one.

Get the black one moron! :D:D
You don't want to call attention to it, you just want it to semi-blend with it's background and surroundings. ;)

Sold! I'll buy the black one today, and I'll (if I remember!) post pictures of it, once it comes in.

Thanks for the advice, folks!

I have a black dash cover on my 84 TD which is Palamino interior and I think
it looks better than an attempt to match something. I like the fact that
it isn't distracting in any way. I'm sorry, but I like the appearance.

My velourmat came in yesterday afternoon, and I installed it without a problem. I didn't even need to use the sticky-pads they gave me with it!

I actually kind of like the way it looks. Sure, the dash under it looks better (My dash was near-mint, but I want to keep it that way!), but the mat blends rather well with the rest of the car, considering the carpeting in my 300D is of a velour material anyway.

I'll post pictures later, for all of you folks who are on the fence about buying one!

velour mat?

Zerohour3k 10-12-2007 09:51 AM

Yep. The DashMat company makes four different versions of their product.
DashMat (Carpet)
VelourMat (Velour material, like the OEM carpeting in our W123's)
Signature Series (Fake suede material)
UltiMat (Carpet, but supposedly fit to the exact contours of your dash. Not available for W123's)

The velour one looks rather nice!

Will do, once I get home. I need to get my Hirschmann antenna installed this afternoon, and I'll take photos after that. :)

Not the best of pictures, since the sun was practically gone by the time I got home, but here's a few with the velourmat (black) installed on a W123. The ones where it looks "sparkly" is because the flash went off. It's made of the same material as the sidewalls of the interior carpeting, only in black.
