vacuum line from check valve in engine compartment to supply tank?
83 300TD.
trying to figure this out from the diagrams. there are two lines that come out of the check valve in the engine through the firewall. one is solid the other has a grey stripe. after testing the two the grey striped line is the one giving me a pain in the neck (literally). i can follow the yellow line to its logical conclusion but the line with the grey stripe disappears behind the instrument panel (trying to avoid taking this off at almost all costs). there is a line with a grey strip that emerges under the passenger seat (after the door) and then runs to the supply tank in the trunk. is it wrong to assume that this same line runs all the way, continuously, from the check valve in the engine to the supply tank? do they coordinate the colors in such a logical fashion? the diagrams are a bit murky. |

Do you have a 300TD or a 300D?

I have a diagram that shows a yellow with gray stripe going directly to the reservoir.

thanks. that's what i thought.
so my next questions; if this line is bad or there is a leak in the resovoir would that screw up the whole system as described in my first post? what's the resovoir actually do? and can i pull the end of the line out of the resovoir and then seal it up? anybody ever done this? my line seems really well fixed to the resovoir. this would all make sense on the surface though because i had done a bunch of stuff with the back seat interior and the trunk. |

The resevoir is for the locking system. You can pump it down with a mity vac, but it does take a while.

FYI, if you find a crack in your reservoir I have had success repairing a cracked vacuum reservoir in the past using JB weld. I applied it to the crack and applied vacuum to the tank which sucked it into the crack further and once it cured it was solid as a rock. Just another free tip.

i'll trying pumping it down again for a longer period of time. thanks everyone. this place is very cool. ---- so has anyone pulled the vacuum line from the resovoir tank and then reinserted it? mine seems to be permanently fixed to the resovoir and am worried about pulling the line. the other thing is what do people use for a sealant if i do pull the line and want to reaffix it? The grommet, or nipple, where the line goes into the reservoir is one of the weakest points. I have not removed one, sorry, can't help there.
