Proper Induction makes a big difference on my 123

I had the seals replaced on my SLS pump on my 300TD a few weeks ago. They had to remove the air cleaner to get to the pump and found some decomposed/broken rubber bits under the air cleaner housing, which they replaced. My mileage went up about 10% and the initial hesitation from a dead stop is almost gone.

??
what is the air filter in the way of? hmm, I suppose the reservoir and hoses... pump is on the other side. it may have just been that your air filter itself was plugged. a plugged air filter can seriously affect your power and mileage. also your exhaust would be cleaner... less soot in the motor too.

Rubber bits? like worn aircleaner bushings? and how do you figure you gained any performance by replacing them things?

The rubber mounts just stop vibration on the air filter body.

They had to replace/adjust something else to make that kind of change.

yeh I know...

The SLS pump could have failed and caused the decrease economy?

I changed my oil last weekend and experienced the same boost in off the line performance. I'm guessing the boost I got was from the oil change and not the work on the air cleaner seal. I'm guessing that fresh oil helps the blow by on this old engine a lot.

More likely that you inadverently hit the boost control line and broke free some soot allowing it to actually work.

That thought did cross my mind when I was manhandling the vacuum lines to get at the oil filter. By boost, are you referring to the ALDA?

Thanks.
